Spiritual Variant of the Portuguese Way

     The spiritual variant of the Camino de Santiago is the Jacobean Route that joins the Portuguese Camino with the one known as the "maritime route or the route of the ​​Arousa's Sea and the Ulla River". This variant allows the traveler to relive part of the traslatio, the legendary sea voyage of the body of Santiago Apostle from Jerusalem to the lands of Iria Flavia. It is made up of 3 stages, beginning in the city of Pontevedra and ending in Pontecesures, where it joins the last stage of the Camino Portugues.

     The peculiarity of this variant lies in the fact that the first two stages are carried out on foot and cross the beautiful region of O Salnés; while the last stage takes place between Vilanova de Arousa and Pontecesures and is carried out by sea, beginning the navigation in the waters of the "ría de Arousa" and concluding in the last navigable section of the Ulla River. Some people say it is, perhaps, the most unique stage for pilgrims and "the most spiritual" of all the paths that lead to Santiago de Compostela. I is the cradle and residence of illustrious writers such as Valle-Inclán, Camilo José Cela or Rosalía de Castro. This variant allows you to discover along the way mills and historic monasteries, stone crosses, paradisiacal beaches and nature trails, the characteristic vineyards of the area and even the only maritime-fluvial viacrucis in the world.
