Poio is a Galician municipality of the Rías Baixas located between the city of Pontevedra and Sanxenxo. An ideal location for the visitor who comes to discover one of the most touristic areas of Galicia but prefers to stay in a quiet environment. Its location in the Ría de Pontevedra offers sheltered beaches and calm waters. Just 45 minutes from Santiago de Compostela and 25 minutes from Vigo, Poio has become an enclave visited by thousands of tourists who want to enjoy the good weather and the attractions of Rías Baixas, as well as an exceptional gastronomy.
Poio stands out as a touristic destination, because of its interesting beach's offer, its heritage and gastronomy. A perfect destination for families, couples or groups of friends. The municipality has 20 kilometers of coastline that offer different options for taking a dip in urban beaches such as Xiorto, Sinás or Campelo or more sections such as Laño or Cabecera.
The picturesque fishing village of Combarro, declared an Artistic Historic Site in 1972, is one of the most visited places in Galicia, conjugating in a small core traditional architecture, both an ancestral and marine, with numerous hórreos facing the sea. The Baroque monastery of San Xoán also stands out and we can not forget that Poio claims to be the birthplace of Christopher Columbus and preserves the house in which is believed he has lived.
Poio also deserves a separate chapter in the gastronomic section. The exceptional quality of the seafood and fish of the Rías Baixas allies in this small town with the good work of great chefs. It is remarkable that it has two restaurants with a Michelin star: Casa Solla and Pepe Vieira.
